Notes:
- DSLR pixels (Digital Single Lens Reflex) are similar to Compact
Digital camera pixels -- but they are not the same.
- The most common difference between DSLR pixels and non-DSLR pixels is
primarily the sensor technology; CMOS for DSLR pixels and CCD for Compacts.
- CMOS half/full-size DSLR pixel array sensors are physically larger and
have the same 3:2 aspect ratio as 35mm film whereas most Compact
digital cameras are a 4:3 ratio.
- The DSLR pixels of CMOS sensors generally have larger per-pixel area so
are less noisy and have better sensitivity then CCD imagers.
- However, the basic design of nearly all digital cameras has fundamental
'features' which make the effective clarity much lower than the camera
Mpix rating under typical 'point-n-shoot' mode.
- Fortunately, DSLR camera's have RAW mode which can help -- when combined
with the necessary post-processing computer tools.
